Mail Time

There are plenty of jokes about mail carriers out there and how cushy their job is, but it isn’t necessarily all that great. There’s the walking and the weather, not to mention dogs and rude people. And in some cases there’s also the other side of the coin. At my day job I often see the mail carrier arrive, and my co-worker loves to corner him with badly-told stories about her dog and long conversations about the weather. Like the poor guy doesn’t already have everyone asking if it’s cold (or hot) enough for him.

Anyway, in Mail Time, Ted (Timothy J. Cox) is a postal worker who has some problems. The people on his route never seem to want to chat, and he’s frequently mugged by a guy who apparently has nothing better to do and doesn’t mind risking federal charges. There’s only one bright spot to his day, and that’s Julia (Makeela Frederick).

Ted also tries to cheer himself and those around him with card and coin tricks, though again, those don’t always seem to attract a lot of interest. Then, inspired by the Edward Norton film The Illusionist, Ted discovers another kind of magic in his life, and his dull old mail route will never be the same.

This short packs a lot of charm into just six minutes, creating a modern-day fairy tale that will make you smile and cheer. We’ve all wished for a little more magic in our lives, in various senses of the word, and that wish comes true through our letter-delivering hero. He’s the regular Joe — sorry, Ted — who finally catches a break, and this delightful film will help anyone face the day with a little more optimism.
